Support for Victims of Hurricane Katrina

Fellow HeSCANs,

The headlines around the world reflect the devastation currently being experienced in the southern states - specifically in New Orleans. It is full, front page news here in Winnipeg. I am certain you all have been reading of this tragedy, and that your thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.

I thought this morning specifically of our good friend Jackson Townsend, and his colleagues at LSU. We all hope to hear from them soon.

There is some solace found in the way we respond to these disasters. Money has already started flowing from around the world to aid in caring for the affected, and in the eventual rebuilding process. We experienced this first hand in Grand Forks, North Dakota (downtown decimated by flood and fire) and later downstream in Winnipeg during "The Flood of the Century" in 1997. Then, we felt the immense support and compassion of both countries, and are forever grateful. It is not uncommon to experience economic resurgence following these disasters as well, and we did. There is always hope...

I encourage you all to support the recovery of affected regions - and our HeSCA family members - any way you can.

Best personal regards,

Bill
