What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis

If you are suffering from any kind of foot pain today, you may be familiar with a medical condition called Plantar Fasciitis. Since this condition can affect a large number of people, the medical community has a lot of information regardingits diagnosis, symptoms, causes, and its treatment. Therefore, if you or someone else that you know has this kind of condition, you may know what this type of pain is all about. With that said, here are some facts about Plantar Fasciitis that you should know.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

First of all, before discussing this foot problem, you should know what Plantar Fasciitis is, and what kind of condition it creates. Therefore, one of the first things that you should become familiar with facts like plantar fascia is currently known as the largest ligament in the entire human body. Also, when it is strained due to some form of injury, this ligament can be greatly affected by micro tears. This type of injury results in a number of different symptoms occurring including, foot pain, heel pain, tenderness and even stiffness in this area. Therefore, when a physician knows the problems that their patients are experiencing, they can diagnosis this problem as being related or unrelated to Plantar Fasciitis.

The diagnosis that the physician makes is not based on the signs and symptoms experienced by their patients alone. This is because there are other factors that can assist in making a proper diagnosis, including learning of the history of the patients that are affected by it. It also important to note that this condition is not only related to sustaining an injury to the ligaments but also being related to underlying disease. As a result, the physician will need to ensure that the proper diagnosis is made so the illness or condition will match the cure. For instance, when a physician creates a plan for their patient, it is normally treated in degrees or measures so that the inflammation will subside as well. Many physicians are very careful with their diagnosis too since the signs and symptoms are very similar to a medical condition called Baxter’s neuritis. Baxter neuritis is not caused by a ligament tear or a related disease but by nerve entrapment in the heel of the person’s feet. So, there are vast differences in the actual cause of each.

Treatment

The treatment for this medical condition can vary from one person and the severity to the next. So, the physician may recommend one or more courses of treatment to alleviate the pain that the person is experiencing. For instance, to reduce the inflammation in the feet, the physician may recommend an ice massage to the feet. These ice massages are designed to get rid of the inflammation and the associated pain. Some physicians may recommend various stretching exercises to loosen the tendons in the ligament. To get rid of the pain, the doctor may prescribe several different treatment therapies including wearing plantar fasciitis socks to cushion the soles of the person’s feet. These socks are usually ideal for those who want to keep jogging, running or walking without experiencing the associated pain. Also, if the pain is severe enough, the physician may prescribe an ibuprofen.

Plantar Fasciitis explained

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

When people begin to suffer from this condition, they are usually concerned about the cause. This is especially true when they know the pain is coming from something that they are doing. Specifically, when they have just begun a regular routine of exercises like walking, running, or exercises that can create the pain that they feel. Even though the person may be guessing about its actual cause when they feel the first effects, they may be right about the origination of it if they link it to some kind of repetitive tasks. For instance, this ligament can easily be strained or injured when the person is walking, running or exercising without the benefit of proper foot gear. As a result, if the person is running or jumping for fun, they may easily injure this part of the body when they land too hard on their feet.

In addition to sustaining an injury at one point in time, you should also know that Plantar Fasciitis is related and can be linked to certain diseases like ankylosing spondylitis and reactive arthritis. Therefore, physicians must know the exact cause of this foot problem before they begin to treat these patients correctly.

Signs and Symptoms

While the signs and symptoms can cause pain at anytime, the pain that people experience is primarily felt during certain times of the day. One time, in particular, is in the morning hours when people arise out of their bed. Or, the person may feel discomfort and pain when they are sitting in their vehicle or stepping out their car to go their intended destination. It really does not matter the timing since it is based on the individual and the type of injury or disease that they are dealing with. However, the pain that most people feel is normally very excruciating and also difficult to walk from one place to another when there is inflammation in the person’s feet.

Typically, the pain can also be so severe that the person cannot walk bare feet or on any type of hard surfaces. This is especially true when the pain from the inflammation makes the feet feel warm, tender and swollen. Even though the pain may come from specific activities like running or jogging, people rarely feel this type of discomfort in the midst of these activities. Instead, the pain of the inflammation is normally felt much much later during the night or early in the morning.

Conclusion

Plantar fasciitis is a medical condition that many people suffer from today, and it involves inflammation in the feet. The pain that people feel can be so severe that it is difficult to walk in the morning hours when people step out of bed. The cause can differ from one patient to the next since it may come from an injury or disease. Physicians will need to determine what the nature of the problem is so that they can design a treatment plan that will eliminate the inflammation and the pain.
